RIX Leap Australia
Needs first. A RIX Leap is a thermal riflescope for the shot after you have already found the animal — not the scanner you wave around the paddock. Start with a handheld (Pocket, Stride or Titan) so you can glass quarry, distance and background safely. Then pick Leap by quarry and typical shot distance, not by a price ladder. Around ~150 m the Need is 35 mm (Leap L3R or Glint G3). Past that — foxes at 250 m and longer feral shots — lock 50 mm first: that is the Leap L6R. The L12R is the 60 mm / 1280 flagship when maximum detail is part of the same distance Need.

Leap L3R — 35 mm, closer country
The Leap L3R is the 35 mm / 384×288 Leap with continuous optical zoom and a lens-integrated LRF. Use it when the hunt lives inside ~150 m: rabbits, foxes in scrub, tight paddocks. Zoom and ranging are Considerations after that 35 mm lock. Do not stretch a 35 mm Leap to 250 m foxes — that job is a 50 mm Need.
Leap L6R — 50 mm open paddock
The Leap L6R is the Leap we fit to foxes at 250 m and other shots past ~150 m: 50 mm F0.9, 640×480 / 12 µm, NETD <20 mK, continuous optical zoom 2.8 to 8.4×, and a lens-integrated LRF. The 640 does not add metres over a 384 on the same 50 mm class — it buys a wider, more detailed picture. Leap L12R — 60 mm / 1280 flagship
The Leap L12R steps to 60 mm and a 1280×1024 sensor when the distance Need is already long and you want maximum FOV and detail. Same Leap workflow: lens and role first, 1280 and extras second. Glint G3 and DBH12
Glint G3 is the compact 35 mm / 384 LRF tube for close–mid work when you do not Need Leap’s continuous zoom. DBH12 is the 1280-class premium scope when flagship detail is a Consideration after the distance Need is locked. Both still want a handheld first.

Needs first: distance. Around ~150 m, L3R (35 mm / 384). Foxes at 250 m and other shots past ~150 m, L6R (50 mm / 640). Sensor class adds FOV and detail, not raw reach. The lens does the distance work.
When do I pick the Leap L12R?
When the hunt already wants long-range 50–60 mm and you want 1280-class detail. It is a Consideration after the lens class is locked, not a budget step above the L6R.
Do I still need a monocular with a Leap?
Yes. Hunt The Night always spots with a handheld first. Do not sweep the paddock with a scoped firearm. A Pocket, Stride or Titan finds the animal; Leap takes the shot once you are on it.
