PCP or spring?
Spring and gas-ram rifles like the Gamo Swarm are self-contained, so you just load and shoot. They're good for plinking and close pest work.
PCP (pre-charged pneumatic) rifles run on air from a tank or pump. They're quieter, more accurate and shoot further, which is why most pest shooters end up with one. Think FX Impact, FX King, FX DRS, AirMaks Katran and RTI.
Calibre and ammo
.177 is flat and cheap to shoot. .22 is the all-rounder for rabbits and pests. .25 and .30 hit harder at longer range. Pellets suit most shooting, while air rifle slugs carry better at distance in a barrel made for them.
