Bolt action hunting rifles for everything from rabbits to sambar, from Tikka, Bergara, Ruger, Howa and Sako. If you want one rifle that does most jobs, the Tikka T3x Lite Stainless in .308 is light to carry and the stainless copes with wet weather. Shooting off a bipod a lot? Have a look at the Bergara B14 HMR. Not sure on calibre? Tell us what you hunt and we'll help you pick.
Start with the calibre
Pick the calibre for the animal and the shot, then the rifle. A .223 Rem is the fox and goat gun. .243 Win handles foxes and smaller deer. For pigs and most deer, .308 Win, .30-06 and 6.5 Creedmoor are where most hunters land. Bigger deer at longer range is where 7mm PRC and .300 Win Mag earn their keep, but they kick harder and the ammo costs more, so only go there if you need it.
Which rifle?
Tikka T3x. Smooth action, light and accurate. The Lite is the walk-all-day option, and the T3x ACE Game comes with a threaded muzzle, ready for a muzzle brake.
Bergara B14. The B14 Crest Carbon keeps the weight down for mountain hunts, and the HMR suits bench and bipod work.
Ruger American Gen II. A solid rifle that won't break the bank, and the .223 comes with a muzzle brake fitted.
Building your own? The Howa Mini Action and Weatherby 307 barrelled actions are a good base for a custom stock.
Rimfire bolt actions
For rabbits and range days, see our rimfire rifles, including the Tikka T1x and Bergara BMR.
A firearms licence and Permit to Acquire (PTA) are required before purchase. If you're unsure on the paperwork for your state, give us a call and we'll walk you through it.
