Why a HIKMICRO thermal scope is not a spotter

35 mm: fence lines, scrub and mixed paddocks

Most rabbits, pigs and closer foxes around fence lines and mixed country get shot inside 150 m, and a 35 mm HIKMICRO handles that well. The NEOS NH35L is the popular one, with a rangefinder built in. The Stellar SH35L 3.0 pairs a 384 sensor with a rangefinder, the Stellar SH35 3.0 skips the rangefinder, and the Stellar SQ35L 3.0 steps up to a 640 sensor for a wider view on the same lens. For really close work, the NEOS NH25L and NEOS NE25 are lighter again.

50 mm: open country and foxes further out

If you're regularly shooting foxes across open paddocks past 150 m, often around 250 m, go 50 mm. The Stellar SQ50L 3.0 (640 sensor, 50 mm, rangefinder) is our favourite open-country Stellar. The Stellar SH50 3.0 LRF does the same job with a 384 sensor. Don't go by the detection range on the box; what counts is how far out you can tell what the animal is. Halo / 1280 — Stellar SX60LS

If you already shoot a long way out and want the most detail you can get, the Stellar SX60LS (1280×1024, 60 mm, 50Hz, rangefinder) is the top of the Stellar 3.0 line. The 1280 sensor gives you a wider, sharper picture. If most of your shots are inside 250 m, a 50 mm Stellar will do the job for less.

NEOS is a great first thermal for anyone moving on from a torch and day scope, with a proper HIKMICRO sensor at a friendlier price. It suits you if most of your shots are inside 150 m. In stock: NEOS NE25, NH25L (rangefinder) and NH35L (rangefinder). The NEOS NH35L is the one most people pick.

Stellar SQ50L or SH50?

Both are 50 mm, so they reach about the same distance. The SQ50L runs a 640 sensor for a wider view and more detail, and the SH50 runs a 384. If you want the better picture, go SQ50L. If you'd rather save some money, the SH50 does the job.
