ThermTec makes solid thermal at a fair price. Spot with a Wild, Cyclops or Cyclone monocular, then take the shot with an Oryx 650L or Ares 650 2.0 tube scope that sits in normal rings. The Vidar suits lighter rifles, and the Hunt clip-ons keep your day scope working at night. Ask us to help match a setup.

The extras. A tube or compact body (Ares or Vidar), a built-in rangefinder (the "L" models), dual field of view, ballistics, battery and weight. Our best ThermTec thermal scopes Australia 2026 guide goes model by model, the ThermTec Australia guide covers the whole brand, and Thermal Monocular Australia: start with a spotter explains how a handheld and scope work together.

Every Ares, Vidar, Oryx, IBEX, Wild, Hunt and Ventus on this shelf is genuine Australian stock with local warranty.

Spotting — Wild, Cyclops, Cyclone

The Wild 650L and Wild 635L are the ones for open country, when you want to pick out animals past 150 m. The Wild 325, Cyclops 335SE and Cyclone 325 are lighter, for closer work. The Pro and dual-FOV Wilds add extra features.

~

335-class — closer country 150 m

If most of your hunting happens inside 150 m (rabbits, foxes in scrub, tight paddocks), go a 335. The Ares LRF 335L 2.0 is a 30 mm tube that mounts like a day scope. The Vidar LRF 335L has the same lens in a compact body, with a rangefinder and ballistics. The IBEX 335L is the entry-level tube with a rangefinder. For foxes out around 250 m, go a 650 instead.

650-class — open paddock / foxes at 250 m

The Oryx 650L is the ThermTec we'd point you to for foxes at 250 m and other shots past 150 m, with a 50 mm lens and a rangefinder built in. In a tube body, there's also the Ares 650 2.0, Ares 660 2.0 and Ares LRF 660L. In a compact body with a rangefinder, the Vidar LRF 650L and Vidar LRF 660L. A 640 sensor gives you a wider, more detailed view than a 384, but it's the lens that gives you the reach.

Keep the day scope — Hunt / Hunt Pro

Want to keep the day scope you already have? That's what a clip-on is for. The Hunt Pro 650L and Hunt 650 PRO mount in front of your day scope and hold zero. Pair it with a Wild for spotting.

ThermTec Australia — FAQ

Is Hunt The Night a ThermTec dealer in Australia?

Yes. We sell genuine Australian ThermTec stock with local warranty.

335 or 650?

It comes down to how far you shoot. Inside about 150 m, a 335. For foxes at 250 m and other shots past 150 m, a 650 (the Oryx 650L or Ares 650).

Ares or Vidar?

Pick the lens size first. The Ares is a 30 mm tube that mounts like a day scope. The Vidar is compact, with a rangefinder and ballistics on the "L" models. Go with whichever suits your rifle and how you like to range.

Do I still need a monocular with a ThermTec scope?

We'd recommend one. A Wild, Cyclops or Cyclone finds the animal, then the Ares, Vidar, Oryx or IBEX comes up when you're ready to shoot.
