This thing is awesome. If you can’t be bothered reading any further, just buy it you won’t regret it. If you can be bothered – Well then.. Read on.
I have previously owned a Sitemark Wraith, Pulsar Forward (still use this) and Digisight Ultra. The daytime optic is very clear. The lowlight colours are vibrant. On a full moon I was able to hunt with No IR illuminator and in full colour and was clearly able to identify and track foxes amongst mobs of sheep past 500 meters. The controls are intuitive and easy to manipulate. The freeze frame zero is easy to use. The factory illuminator is more than enough in almost all circumstance, but I do find in combination with a narrow beam high powered IR Torch like Z vision torch or the Sniper hog enables greater success at longer range 200-300 meters. The white out issue that some people complained about in previous iterations of Pulsar kit is now redundant – so with that in mind, I found using the stock light at the same time with a narrow focused beam, I had full situational awareness as I could have full view awareness in the scope as well as a dedicated light that set in the middle of the reticle gave me more clarity and longer range (I hope this makes sense).
I am currently using this on a .204 Ruger and the zero is spot on. In first two night of hunting 7 foxes down. No misses. I have had no issues with hard lock or malfunctions and the connectivity with the new app is very easy to use. The ability to control the scope with your mobile phone and set .1 increments of magnification is also excellent as the high end of magnification does have a little bit of pixelation (as all digital zoom scopes do). Also, the front scope cover has a little push button the front so it doesn’t open unless you press the button so you need to remember this when you go to open it!!! Pulsar have updated the charger pack power point adapter (two pin euro plug to two pin Aussie plug) so the power charger doesn’t flop around in the power point adapter, the new one locks in the power source properly ensuring that it works properly every time.
Pros – best non Milspec night time scope on the market. You can hunt in full colour on a cloudless full moon night without the need of an illuminator. Controls are easy to use even with gloves on a cold night. No more white out. The internal batter is also handy as it extends the use of the scope. I haven’t had an issue with battery life but I do, power down/shut off the screen when not in use to conserve battery life. High quality European design and made in Europe as well. The turn on is alomst instantaneous and around a second to two to start up from the off.
Cons: My only gripe is the freeze button for zero is on the side so, when you press it, it tends to push your point of aim right for the freeze. I compensate by support the scope with my right hand to prevent this from happening.
Also, the internal battery – it is truely awesome, but to charge this means that you either have to connect it to a power source which means charging out of the gun safe and hanging around the gun until its done. The simple solution to this problem is to get a portable power bank and charge the scope locked and secured in your gun safe (which is what I do). or remove the scope which you risk zero shift.
Another tip is that you really need to have a tripod with a clamp or similar to get the full benefits of this scope, as it is handy to have the gun supported safely so both your hands are free to manipulate the controls (zoom/focus). I am extremely happy with this purchased and the only thing that would be better than this would be this scope with optical zoom variant rather than a digital zoom and or a proper Milspec night vision scope or a high end thermal scope both of which cost mega $$$$. I have attached some photo’s to this blurb, Please bear in mind this is at 60% of the quality of what you actually see in the scope. As these are screen shots from motion film taken by the unit itself. The images were taken at 0130hrs in April on a full moon, the house is over a k away (confirmed with laser range finder). The other images that are in colour and black and white are of foxes. The one in the colour image is at approximately 150 meters and fox in the black and white well over two hundred meters. I can assure you in the scope and on the film you can clearly see that they are foxes and quality is outstanding and the pictures don’t do this unit the justice it deserves.
